Matt Parkins will provide a fascinating update on how dormice, as a good indicator species, are being monitored to assess the health of woodland and scrub habitats during major woodland conservation projects in Dartmoor’s Teign, Dart and Bovey valleys.
As the woodlands are undergoing gradual, large-scale restoration from conifer plantations to semi natural habitats, the behaviour of dormice will help to understand the process. A unique combination of CCTV, footprint tunnels and nest boxes is being used to provide a full picture of how they disperse into areas where habitat is being restored.
