DMG SUMMER EVENTS PROGRAMME April - October 2008
This summer’s programme of events again focuses on a series of targeted close encounters with the mammals of Devon. We hope to observe some of the counties stunning mammal fauna from bats to badgers in their natural environment and get a glimpse into their secret lives.
Please book in advance so we can contact the people listed if needed. Events are FREE for all DMG Members (except for the Paignton Zoo Badger Watch) & £3.00 for non-members, however if you join on the day the event is free!

Badger Watch at Paignton Zoo.
Spend the evening watching these charming creatures up close. The group will have their own personal session. Cost £4 for members and £6 for non-members. Maximum number 18. Meet at the rear car park off Penwill Way. Wear warm clothing.

Mammal Tracks and Signs @ Witheridge Moor
Come along to this amazing Culm grassland site (Grid ref: SS869157) and enjoy a day out in Mid Devon. The meadows will be in flower, marsh fritillaries and a high density of dormice are amongst the highlights. 23 mammal species, excluding bats, have been recorded on site.
Hopefully you will have glimpses of roe and red deer and find dormouse and otter signs. Wear stout walking shoes and bring a packed lunch to carry with you. Wellies if wet. Numbers limited to 15. Finish around 4 pm. Please book at least three days in advance with Emma Herrera on 01392 495722.

Bat watch at Coombe House Hotel, Gittisham, East Devon.
Numbers are limited to 12. Bring warm clothes and bat detectors if you have them. We shall gather to watch the Lesser Horseshoe emergence and flight behaviour, other species will also be seen. Meet at Sowton Park & Ride, Exeter (near M5 Exeter Services) at 8.40pm and car share. Please book at least three days in advance with Emma Herrera on 01392 495722.

The Exmoor Deer Walk
The Exmoor Deer Walk will be led by Richard Eales, Ranger for Exmoor National Park Authority. Maximum group size 15 people, so booking is essential. Walking boots and waterproofs essential and bring binoculars if you have them.
Up to 3 hour event. Meet at Molland Moor Gate (NGR SS 835298) at 07.15 am (yes, an early start!). Please book at least three days in advance with Emma Herrera on 01392 495722.
